When the Mossberg 940 Pro shotguns hit the market, we at Varminter started looking at it as a perfect coyote hunting shotgun. Although the 3-Gun and trap/skeet folks were raving about them, there was not a configuration available for our needs. A shorter barrel, camouflaged shotgun, would have fit the needs of a coyote hunter who needs something compact, that swings easily, while still reaching out to extended yardages for a clean kill. Our wishes were answered in mid-January, when Mossberg Corp announced their new 940 Pro Turkey shotguns. Available in two configurations, I felt that the 18.5″ 940 Pro Turkey in the Mossy Oak Greenleaf camo was exactly what we were waiting for! Although they are extremely popular, Mossberg was able to send us one right when they became available and in time for some testing, patterning and late spring/summer coyote hunting. I’ll put up future articles discussing my results with various types of ammo, but specifically the Rio #4 buckshot, so stay-tuned!
